Welcome to My Blog! This is the first blog I've ever kept, and I've never really been a journaler so please bear with me as I get more comfortable with it! I'll be posting updates and photos from my trip to Tanzania and then Costa Rica. So. What am I doing? Well, first I'll be participating in the Engineering World Health Foundation's (EWH) Summer Institute in Arusha, Tanzania for 2 months this summer 2012, funded by DukeEngage. We take Swahili and technical classes for one month, followed by volunteering as medical equipment repairmen for another! Then, 24 hours after my plane returns to Houston, I'm off to Costa Rica, where I'll be doing study abroad with the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) Tropical Medicine and Global Health program. While I did go on vacation with my family to Costa Rica last summer, I've never been on the African continent, so I'm very excited to experience a whole new world. My travel goals are: Africa
Follow my blog to stay updated with what's happening throughout my trips! | TanzaniaArusha, Tanzania is a city near the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro. If you're imagining sweltering heat and sprawling lowlands, think again! The average high in Arusha is around 60°F (16°C), and it's at about the same elevation as Denver, Colorado. I'll be in Tanzania from June 20th to August 20th. Leaving on Tuesday, in 2 days! Ah! I need to start cramming my things into a suitcase... Fun FactThe title of my site, "Sueños Kuja Kweli" means "Dreams come true" in a combination of Spanish and Swahili. |
